College Fair Express Calls Students On Board to Look at Post-High School Options

Saturday, May 9, 2009

ATLANTA—Students wondering what life after high school could be like for them are encouraged to get on board the 2nd Annual College Fair Express.

On Saturday May 9, 2009— from 10 am to 4 pm at the Atrium inside Atlanta City Hall South, 55 Trinity Avenue, SW, Atlanta, GA 30303— students in grades 6th-12th
and their parents are invited to meet with representatives from various post secondary institutions and organizations to see what their options are after high school.

The nation’s economic crisis is prompting many students, in particular graduating high school seniors, and parents to think more seriously about their futures. This event will provide students and their families with a holistic view of life after high school. There will be opportunities for families to direct specific questions to admissions officers, sports recruiters and college officials from all over the country about policies, procedures, expectations, and eligibility requirements in order to better prepare their children to thrive during these difficult economic times.

The College Fair Express is a free event and includes representatives from Clark Atlanta, Clayton, Emory, Georgia State, and Savannah State universities; Georgia Institute of Technology, the Art Institute; Elon, Morehouse and Spelman colleges; Javelin Tech, Le Cordon Bleu, Morehouse School of Medicine, Savannah College of Art & Design, The Scholarship Academy, United States military, 360 Football Academy, and others. Throughout the day, there will be giveaways such as free Kaplan Premier Private Tutoring packages, Kaplan Pre-College Classroom courses, and College Prep books and materials.

The College Express is the conclusion of the 7th Annual College Prep Series that features test preparation for the SAT, PSAT and ACT for Atlanta Public Schools’ middle and high school students. Students who participated in the April 18th and 25th prep tests can receive their results at the College Fair Express.

Atlanta City Councilman Ceasar C. Mitchell teams up with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions each year to sponsor the College Prep Series. Other sponsors include the Navies Foundation, 360 Football Academy and Mrs. Winners Chicken & Biscuits.
